ALEX WITT is a classically trained French horn player who is also trained in the styles of jazz. His style and training allow him to blend seamlessly into all ensembles. His influences come from Bruce Atwell, Richard Todd, and many other inspiring musicians. Alex has been playing horn for almost 2 decades and has played with many different ensembles across the state of Wisconsin, Georgia and Florida. Some of these groups include the Fox Valley Symphony, where he was a regular sub, the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra, where he held the position of fourth horn, the Henry Mancini Orchestra, and both the 132nd Army Band of Madison, Wisconsin and the 116th Army Band of Marietta, Georgia.
Alex also performed with smaller groups such as the Badger Brass Ensemble, performing shows from schools to concert halls in Wisconsin. In addition to professional playing, Alex was also the recipient of the coveted Barry Tuckwell Scholarship of the International Horn Society, which granted him the opportunity to perform in Los Angeles at the 2015 IHS convention. He has also been awarded a Henry Mancini Fellowship and was the winner of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Concerto Competition and the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Honors Recital in 2016.
Alex is also a skilled educator. Alex holds a master’s degree from the highly acclaimed Frost School of Music in French Horn performance under the guidance of Richard Todd. He also holds two bachelor’s degrees in music education and Music Performance from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and has had the opportunity to work with many schools in Wisconsin, Georgia and Florida. His work in these schools included positions such as Brass Sectional Coach at Neenah High School, and French Horn Coach at Oshkosh West High School. In addition to this, Alex has had numerous private lesson students starting as early as the age of 10. He has also experience conducting ensembles, including the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Wind Ensemble and Brass Section, the 132nd Army Band and the Neenah High School concert and jazz bands.
Alex is currently freelancing in the Atlanta area, working with the 116th Army band in Marietta and teaching horn at the Atlanta Music Academy.
