David Wilkes teaches clarinet and bass clarinet students of all ages and levels at Atlanta Music Academy.
For twelve years Mr. Wilkes lived in Nashville and taught a large studio of woodwind students throughout Middle Tennessee. He was adjunct instructor of woodwinds at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, for nine years. As a freelance musician he performed chamber music with several ensembles and was a substitute on clarinet and bass clarinet with the Nashville Symphony.
After a year of studies in arts administration at the University of Cincinnati, Mr. Wilkes moved to Atlanta to work in development with The Atlanta Opera. Since 2009 he has taught beginning band at Woodward North in Johns Creek. He performs with a variety of ensembles including the Atlanta Clarinets, Atlanta Freedom Band, Georgia Philharmonic and Tara Winds. As a member of the Tara Winds, he performed at the 2015 Midwest Clinic in Chicago.
Mr. Wilkes earned a Bachelor of Music degree in clarinet performance from Auburn University in Alabama. He then earned a Master of Music degree in clarinet performance from Kent State University in Ohio. He is a member of GMEA, C4Atlanta and the International Clarinet Association.
