Dr. Lindsey Welp

Saxophone

Dr. Lindsey Welp’s performances have been described as “mesmerizing…(taking) the saxophone to levels our audience rarely sees”. Lindsey is passionate about community-centered artistry, interdisciplinary collaboration, and crafting engaging and supportive pedagogical spaces. 

Lindsey has received many solo musical accolades, including first prize in the LaGrange Symphony Young Artist Competition; two first prizes in the MTNA Young Performing Artist State Solo Competition; two-time NASA collegiate solo competition semifinalist; and third prize in the Elise Hall Competition for Emerging Saxophonists. 

A passionate chamber musician, Dr. Welp is the tenor saxophonist of the award-winning saxophone quartet Mixed Media, who won the Gold Medal in the 2022 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Mixed Media won first prize in the Coltman Chamber Music Competition in 2022 and was awarded the American Prize in Chamber Music Performance in 2023. 

As an educator, Lindsey served as the Adjunct Instructor of saxophone at Terra State Community College. Lindsey has also served as the Graduate Teaching Assistant for the saxophone studios at the University of Georgia (where she was awarded an Outstanding Teaching Award in 2024) and Bowling Green State University. Dr. Welp has taught privately in Indiana, Ohio, and Georgia. Her students have gone on to be accepted into top music programs across the country and win positions in All-District and All-State Honor Bands. 

Lindsey holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in saxophone performance from the University of Georgia. Her primary teachers include Connie Frigo, Brandon Quarles, John Sampen, Scotty Stepp, and Jean Yves-Fourmeau.
