Amaro Dubois

Violin and Viola

As a soloist, he has performed with numerous orchestras in Brazil and premiered newly commissioned concertos by emerging and historically overlooked composers. In the 2025-2026 season, he will debut two new viola concertos by Dimitri Cervo and Judith Markovich. An avid recording artist, Dubois has released four commercial albums, with two more on the way, highlighting his passion for championing lesser-known works. His latest album, Luz, showcases his dedication to living composers and historical voices that have been overshadowed in the classical music world. He performs on an extraordinary viola made by renowned Hungarian luthier Otto Erdesz in 1850, an instrument that complements his expressive and deeply personal artistry.

Beyond the stage, Dubois is a committed educator, shaping the next generation of musicians across all levels of learning. His teaching experience spans from early childhood education to advanced collegiate instruction, having taught kindergarten for one year in Memphis, followed by three years as a middle and high school orchestra director. He further contributed to youth music education as head of the orchestra program at Middle College in Memphis, TN, for two years, working closely with violin and viola students. At the university level, he served as a teaching assistant of Viola at the University of Alabama (2017-2019) and is currently a Teaching Assistant in the Viola Studio at the University of Georgia (2022–Present), where he also serves as a UGA Artist holding the prestigious Presidential Fellowship. Additionally, he maintains a private violin and viola studio, teaching students from around the world virtually, providing high-level instruction to musicians of all backgrounds and experience levels.

With a career that seamlessly bridges performance, recording, and education, Amaro Dubois continues to inspire audiences and students alike through his artistry and commitment to musical excellence. His work expands the viola’s repertoire while fostering a global community of musicians who share his passion for discovery and artistic expression. Whether on stage, in the recording studio, or in the classroom, Dubois remains dedicated to elevating the voices of underrepresented composers and guiding the next generation of string players toward their full potential.
