Junxi Jiang is an accomplished cellist and esteemed educator, recognized for his outstanding
contributions to both performance and teaching. With extensive performances around the world,
his latest festival appearances include Música para la Humanidad and Academia Internacional de
Música de Solsona in Spain. Other festivals include Chamber Music Unbound of Sieera
Academy of Music, Prague Summer nights, Jacobs Summer Music, ArtSpark Summer Music
Festival, Philadelphia International Music Festival, and Interlochen Center for the Arts. As an
avid orchestral player, Jiang most recently served as Assistant Cello Principal at the Boulder
Symphony Orchestra and the Richmond Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he plays with
renowned orchestras such as the Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale, the Owensboro
Symphony, the Evansville Symphony Orchestra, and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic
Orchestra. As chamber musician, Jiang co-founded the Haydn Chamber Players and the Elysian
String Quartet to great success. His dedication to chamber music has brought him acclaim as a
dynamic and expressive performer.
Jiang’s teaching career is marked by his commitment to inspiring and nurturing the next
generation of cellists. He has taught at various institutions, including the Boulder Symphony Music Academy, Indiana University, and Georgia State University. James' approach to teaching
emphasizes technical proficiency, musicality, and the development of each student's unique
voice. His passion for education extends beyond private lessons, as he has also been a speaker
and leader in workshops such as the Joyful Noises Benefit Concert in Dallas, Texas.
Jiang holds a Doctor of Music and Performer Diploma from Indiana University, a Master of
Music from Georgia State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science and
Economics from Vanderbilt University. His advanced studies were guided by esteemed teachers
including Emilio Colon, Christopher Rex, Felix Wang, Kirsten Cassel, and Barbara Mallow. As
an active member of the American String Teachers Association and The College Music Society,
Jiang remains dedicated to professional development and excellence in music education.
