A native of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Ricardo Ferreira began studying music, at the age of 12, in his
church. After having lessons at Villa-Lobos School of Music and the Federal University of Rio de
Janeiro, he won the position of Associate Principal Clarinet at the Rio de Janeiro Opera Theater
Symphony Orchestra at the age of 20. Ricardo held this position until 2019 when he got leave to
study in the United States.
Ricardo is currently an ABD candidate in Clarinet Performance under the supervision of Dr. D.
Ray McClellan at the University of Georgia. He is a Teaching Assistant at the UGA clarinet studio
since 2019, where he teaches one-on-one lessons and coaches clarinet ensembles. Besides his
academic activities, Ricardo works as a clarinet faculty at UGA Community Music School since
2020.
He performed with distinguished orchestras, and chamber ensembles in Brazil and also worked
with renowned music directors, including Kurt Masur, Mstislav Rostropovich, Erich Bergel,
Hilary Griffiths, Isaac Karabtchevsky, and Roberto Minczuk.
Ricardo finished his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music at the Federal University of Rio de
Janeiro, where he also worked as a clarinet faculty.
Ricardo has been performing in concerts and recitals in Brazil, Venezuela, France, and United
States.
During his leisure time, Ricardo enjoys watching movies with his wife Tatiana Ferreira.
