Richard Cho
Violin
Violinist Richard Cho has performed at some of the world’s premier concert halls, including
Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and David Geffen Hall. As a passionate chamber musician and
soloist, he has attended the Bowdoin International Music Festival and the PyeongChang
International Music Festival, where he was featured in the Rising Stars Concert Series. He has
performed alongside members of the Ying and Borodin String Quartets and participated in
masterclasses with members of the Juilliard, Emerson, and Brentano String Quartets. Richard
also leads a Juilliard outreach initiative that brings classical, jazz, and pop music to patients and
families at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Originally from Georgia, Richard was a prizewinner at the Blount-Slawson Young Artists
Competition and has performed as soloist with orchestras throughout the Atlanta area, including
the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra, Georgia Philharmonic, and the Atlanta Community Symphony
Orchestra.
A recipient of the Dorothy Startling Scholarship, Richard completed his Master of Music in Violin
Performance at The Juilliard School, studying with Laurie Smukler and Areta Zhulla. He has
also studied with renowned pedagogues Kim Nam-Yun, Sergiu Schwartz, and Clara-Jumi Kang.
He was previously a member of the Columbia-Juilliard Exchange Program while earning his
Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and Behavior from Columbia University.
Richard’s interdisciplinary interests extend to auditory neuroscience research at Rockefeller
University’s Hudspeth Lab, where he investigates the biomechanics of hearing. His work bridges
artistic expression and scientific inquiry, reflecting a deep commitment to both the emotional and
physiological dimensions of sound.
